ANXIETY & DEPRESSION THERAPY

Supporting women in Overland Park, KS & online throughout Kansas

You are at your wit’s end and done with the struggle.

Are you having a hard time holding it all together? Do you feel like you are at your breaking point?

Relatively simple tasks feel overwhelming. You are struggling to keep up on everything. You have no energy anymore. You pride yourself as someone others can count on, but now your brain feels so cluttered, overwhelmed, and worried. All the time. You find yourself snapping at others or becoming emotional more easily. You can’t concentrate anymore: on your relationships, your home, your job. It feels like you are in a race where you are falling further and further behind.

Maybe you’ve thought, “Am I going crazy?”

You are not going crazy.

Does this sound familiar?

  • People are draining you, and you find yourself more irritable or angry in your interactions.

  • Your brain feels “foggy” all of the time, you have difficulty concentrating and miss important details or deadlines.

  • You wake up in the middle of the night in a panic, unable to calm your racing heart and thoughts. It feels like you can’t take a deep breath.

  • You’ve lost energy and have a hard time motivating yourself to do things you usually enjoy.

  • You compare yourself to others around you and feel like you aren’t measuring up.

  • You feel sad much of the time and unable to identify why, and you are having a hard time managing your emotions.

You feel guilty about all of this. Maybe you feel like you are always letting others down, maybe even disappointing yourself. If the future feels overwhelming, even scary, and you have no idea what to do next, let’s figure out what next steps feel right to you.

YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION.

We will work together to discover what has been triggering your feelings of anxiety and depression. I’ll help you calm and challenge your internal thoughts of worry and hopelessness. We will process any difficult experiences that may be keeping you stuck.

As you begin to understand yourself better, you will develop coping skills to help you deal with day-to-day stress and overwhelm, learn to set boundaries when necessary, and start to prioritize YOU. I believe that you are the expert on your life and know deep down what you want, and I’ll walk alongside you to help you sort out what that will look like.

Imagine a life where you:

  • Aren’t feeling so “up and down” all the time.

  • Feel calmer about life’s demands.

  • Find joy in your relationships again.

  • Wake up feeling refreshed and ready for new possibilities.

  • Can prioritize YOUR needs.

  • Feel good about yourself and aren’t afraid of your future.

  • Have a clear path forward.

“The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat. They’ve known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life. That fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.

— Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Common questions about therapy for depression & anxiety

  • Depression and anxiety share symptoms, and they often occur together. Depression can lead us to feel more anxious if we aren’t able to be as productive in our day-to-day responsibilities. Anxiety can lead us to feel depressed when we are worried about our future. Through assessments, I can tell whether you have an anxiety or depressive disorder or both. Ultimately, though, the goal is about you feeling better. If you would like me to work with your doctor so that your doctor can prescribe medication, I am more than happy to do that.

  • This one is a little harder to answer because the answer is “it depends.” It depends upon the frequency and severity of your symptoms and how much this is impacting your daily functioning. Most clients report some relief as soon as the first session because they feel hope in beginning to address their struggles. I will work closely with you to determine the best course of action and will recommend how often we meet. Many clients feel significant relief within 12-16 sessions.

  • Thank goodness for modern medicine! Medicine can indeed help alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. However, I have found medication to be most effective when coupled with therapy, and I can work with your doctor to make sure the doctor has all the necessary information to make informed recommendations. In therapy, we will get to the root causes of your depression and anxiety and work to resolve those causes, learn coping skills to prevent future struggles, and build hope in your future.
